About Us

Our Mission

Our core principle is to build relationships with our members while providing the highest level of financial service possible. We believe in the traditional credit union philosophy of “People Helping People.” This is a community organization, member-owned, and locally operated.

Credit unions aren’t banks although we do offer many of the same services. Instead, we hold ourselves to a higher standard. We are not-for-profit, local, and community driven. When you join you become a member not a customer. As a member, you become an owner of the credit union. Collaboration is the key to our success, and we have a long history of delivering on that promise.

Story of Bellwood Credit Union

Bellwood Credit Union, originally known as The Q.M. Depot Federal Credit Union, was chartered in 1951 to serve the government and civilian employees of the Defense Supply Center Richmond in Chesterfield County, Virginia. In 2012, Bellwood CU merged with Henrico Federal Credit Union. The Bellwood name was retained to further acknowledge the commitment to DSCR and the surrounding community.

As a credit union built on the core principle of relationships, we strive to provide the highest level of financial service to our members while demonstrating the traditional credit union philosophy of "People Helping People."

A New Era in Financial Services

Over the last decade, additional services and products, with many digitally focused,  have been introduced. As a community credit union, we currently serve over 30,000 members in the Greater Richmond area.

We invite you to learn more about joining our credit union and experiencing the benefits of becoming a Bellwood Credit Union member.
